DHS' Policies and Procedures Over Conferences

According to the Department, it participated in 1,094 conferences in fiscal year 2012, with expenditures totaling approximately $21.6 million. We conducted this audit in response to a mandate from the House Appropriations Committee, which directed the Office of Inspector General to report, no later than 30 days after the date of enactment of the DHS Fiscal Year 2013 Appropriations Bill, whether DHS has effective procedures in place to ensure compliance with all applicable Federal laws and regulations on conferences. The Fiscal Year 2013 Appropriations Bill was enacted on March 26, 2013.
